Can you go in Gaping Gill?
The extensive system of caves 100 metres under this moorland are only accessible to cavers except for a week in May (with Bradford Pothole Club) and a week in August (with Craven Pothole Club) when these caves are made accessible by a winch.
How was the Gaping Gill created?
Initially the water seeped into vertical joints or fault fissures, dropping down to the water table level and then along weaknesses or ‘bedding planes’ between the beds of submerged limestone.
Are dogs allowed in ingleborough caves?
Dogs are more than welcome, providing they are well behaved and are kept on a lead. We accept payment by cash, cheque or card (excluding American Express). The Cave tour journeys 0.3 miles (0.5km) underground, so visitors will walk a total of 0.6 miles (1km).

Are dogs allowed in white scar caves?
Dogs are not permitted inside the cave, for reasons of safety and animal welfare. Dogs may however be brought to the cave site as long as they are controlled.

Why is it called Buttertubs?
The road winds its way north from Simonstone near Hawes towards Thwaite and Muker past 20-metre-deep (66 ft) limestone potholes called the Buttertubs. It is said that the name of the potholes came from the times when farmers would rest there on their way to market.
How steep is Fleet Moss?
Fleet Moss is a long exposed climb between Buckden and Hawes. At it’s peak it climbs to just over 600 metres in altitude, with a maximum gradient of 20% (from Hawes).
