How do you wear ribbons and medals?
Wear official medals on the left, using a metal bar.
- The center of the holding bar should be parallel to the ground.
- The most senior medal should be on the right side of the bar in the position furthest away from the left shoulder.
- Commemorative or nonofficial awards, when worn, should be placed on the right side.
Can you wear the ribbons and the medals on the uniform at the same time?
The use of large medals and badges is reserved for daytime attire, but ensure not to wear large medals and ribbons at the same time. The exception is the wear of unit ribbons on the right side on the Army uniform. When wearing civilian attire, ensure you comply with the same rules as if you were in uniform.

How are medals positioned on the female uniform?
Name Tag: The female nameplate should be placed 1 to 2 inches above the top exposed button of the coat and centered horizontally on the wearer’s right side. Badges and medals are placed 1/8 inch below the ribbons.
Wear of Full Size Decorations & Navy Service Medals Align bottom row same as ribbon bars. All rows may contain maximum of 3 medals side by side or up to 5 overlapping. Overlapping is proportional with inboard medal showing in full. Mount medals so they cover suspension ribbon of the medal below.
Can I wear my medals on civilian clothing?
It is permissible for veterans and retirees to wear military awards on civilian clothes for gatherings of a military theme. Retirees and veterans can wear all categories of medals on appropriate civilian clothing. This includes clothes designed for veteran and patriotic organizations.
