The Great Sundering (also simply known as the Sundering, or the Breaking) was a cataclysmic event that shattered the continent of Kalimdor approximately 10,000 years ago, at the end of the War of the Ancients.
What caused the great sundering?
This was caused after Queen Azshara created a portal for Sargeras in the Well of Eternity and Malfurion Stormrage led his forces to destroy the Well. The site of the Well of Eternity became a swirling vortex of power known as the Maelstrom, a storm of chaotic energies, which continues to rage to this day.
What was the sundering 5e?
The 5e Sundering is related to other “earlier” Sunderings: The Original Sundering (also known as the Tearfall) that divided the original world of Abeir-Toril into the twin worlds of Abeir and Toril; and the First Sundering, the one the elves provoked to create Evermeet.

Sargeras was once a vanir titan, called upon to defeat and imprison the hordes of demons native to the Twisting Nether, so that their evil would not contaminate the titans’ vision of order.
Who blew up the Well of Eternity?
Following the War of the Ancients, the Well of Eternity was destroyed, and most of Kalimdor with it, leaving only the Maelstrom,a huge unstable whirlpool filled with magic that can only be seen on the WOW map.
What should I read after sundering?
Only the books in the Companions Codex take place after the Sundering. The backstory for this novel is told in the Erevis Cale books. Start with Cale’s story in The Halls of Stormweather, then go on to Shadow’s Witness, then read the Erevis Cale trilogy, and finish with the Twilight War trilogy.
